What's Rev. Wright Getting At?

Lessons learned from Jesse Jackson's silence regarding this Rev. Wright flap:

1) No injustice to white males is unjust in view of historical injustices against blacks (Duke rape)

2) No hate speech or unfounded conspiracy theory from black community leaders is unjustifiable in view of historical injustices against blacks

3) All attacks, no matter how hypersensitive the criticism, against white media personalities require the immediate dismissal of the offender and monetary restitution (paid to Rev. Jackson on behalf of the sensitive offended).

Is Rev. Wright sacrificing Obama's presidential campaign in a bid to get a piece of Rev. Jackson's action?

Dems Block Ban on Porn Sales to Minors

Democratic Senators John Morse, Colorado Springs, and Brandon Shaffer, Longmont, were instrumental in successfully blocking Republican Senator Ted Harvey's bill to ban the sale of pornography to kids. In a totally partisan effort, Democrats larded Harvey's bill with costs, then used those costs as an excuse to ax it — a maneuver known around the Capitol as "death by fiscal note." Gentlemen start your petitions

The legal period with which major and minor party candidates for elective office can officially begin collecting signatures to place their name on the August primary ballot is Monday March 31st. Candidates for Federal office need to collect only 1,500 signatures. A good rule of thumb for collecting signatures is that you usually want to collect about twice as many required to be safe.

In the 5th Congressional District at least one candidate, Bentley Rayburn has indicated that he will petition onto the August primary ballot. Eyes are on Doug Lamborn to see if he seeks the August ballot via the petition route on Monday. Doug Lamborn has said that seeks nomination via the caucus/assembly process but that he is keeping his options open. Lamborn’s campaign staff has reportedly made as many as 3 to 4 phone calls each to delegates to the 5th Congressional assembly to gauge his support among delegates. If Lamborn has near 50% he will likely go the assembly route. If his support is lower, odds are he will take the safe route, pay the $5,000 to paid petitioners and face his two likely challengers in August.

Bentley Rayburn’s endorsements-Designed to impress or set him apart from the field?

Late last week the Rayburn for Congress campaign released its much heralded endorsement list. Bentley Rayburn himself has told activists that people would be surprise when they saw the list.

Upon inspection of the list, the analysis appears to be a rather short list of past and former elected officials. Only a couple of individuals on the list are currently office holders. The list includes one Democrat (Darin Anstine). The list also includes a Republican (Scott Hente) that supported Jay Fawcett, Doug Lamborn’s Democrat general election opponent in 2006. The list also includes Bentley’s in-laws (Dr. and Mrs. Milton Dewhirst)

The list also is notable by the number of folks that party insiders feel appeal to more moderate and socially liberal elements of the Republican party.

Long Bill and Ritter's Great Disappointment

What happened to the Colorado Promise?

The Colorado State legislature rolls out this week what is commonly called the Long Bill. The long bill is the proposed 2009 budget for the State of Colorado. The proposed budget that the JBC submitts is believed to be 60-80 million dollars over budget. It will be interesting to see which special interest groups that worked very hard over the past several years to elect and Democrat legislature and a Democrat executive branch will not get to particpate in the Colorado Promise. While the Democrats will blame President Bush for the budget shortfalls, one has to wonder what the Democrats did with the 4+ billion for Ref C that the voters voted for.

Doug Lamborn ducks another debate

Doug Lamborn blew off a 4th debate last night which was held by the Teller County Home Builder Assn. Bentley Rayburn and Jeff Crank both attended.
What does Doug have to fear from these two? He has the power of incumbency, frank mail privileges and a fundraising advantage that he should cause him to dispense of his two opponents in quick order. Instead his challengers will gain strength and draw this battle out until August.

Unfortunately, Doug Lamborn seems to have been affected by same ill advice that nearly cost him the primary in 2006.

Is he scared of his own short-comings or has Washington D.C. changed the Lamborn we sent to Washington into a beltway insider who believes he has lost touch with his constituents? It’s a shame that one of the strongest Republican districts in the country is represented by some one that too scare to represent the conservative value we all share.

Obama Spend-A-Rama

Late Wednesday afternoon, Sen.Wayne Allard (R-Co.) introduced Amendment 4246 into the Senate budget debate. The amendment, which Allard calls “The Obama Spend-o-Rama” proposes funding 111 of the 188 spending proposals put out so far during Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) presidential campaign. (These were the proposals which Allard’s staff had time to analyze before the GOP leadership asked him to offer the amendment on the floor.) According to Allard, “There are another 77 proposals with unknown cost estimates that will add billions to this number.” (Click here to read Senator Allard’s Fiscal Responsibility Floor Statement.)

Breaking Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment:

Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment: "Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican."

A friend of ours received an invitation to attend a fundraising for Congressman Doug Lamborn in New Orleans. We are pretty sure that these staunch conservatives that are putting on this fundraiser for Congressman Lamborn are strong adherents and fans of Ronald Reagan. We somehow think that Ronald Reagan would be spinning in his grave if he saw this invitation. We know both of Congressman Doug Lamborn’s opponents. Neither are “sore losers” and both are especially not moderates.

Having fun with Barry Noreen at the Gazette

Liberal editorial writer (registered Democrats for 15 years) for the Gazette Barry Noreen wrote an endorsement of Doug Lamborn masquerading as an op-ed. Barry was struggling with why two Republicans might be challenging Doug for the Republican nomination. Examples of Doug Lamborn’s embarrassing actions and statements and his ineffectiveness clutter the Gazette archives. Here are the top ten:

Doug Lamborn’s record in Congress:

10. Voted with Michael Vick to not increase penalties for dog and cock fighting.
9. Failed to win enough support in Congress to expand Pinon Canyon.
8. Failed in his foolish idea to make Pike’s Peak a National Monument.
7. Shamelessly took credit due Senator Wayne Allard for an ICE office coming to Colorado Springs.
6. Shamelessly took credit due Senator Wayne Allard for bringing a new Division to Fort Carson.
5. Caught on voicemail threatening constituents over a letter to the editor he didn’t like.
4. Caught on videotape telling a voter “Excuse me sir, why don’t you keep your mouth shut.”
