Douglas Bruce: Just another politician??

Could it be that Douglas Bruce is falling into that old trap of craving office over principle? I know it sounds strange to hear, but today's Gazette in Colorado Springs carried a story about Douglas Bruce wanting to wait to be sworn in until Jan 14th and not before the start of the session. Why does that matter? Well if Bruce is sworn in then, he will be past the halfway mark of former Rep. Cadman's term. That would allow Bruce to serve one more extra term in the legislature, essentially getting nine years instead of seven in the legislature.

You can read the full story at http://www.gazette.com/articles/bruce_30507___article.html/jan_seat.html

Playing around with your swearing in date in order to be able to serve extra years sounds just like the BS stunts that we see so many politicians pull. "I know I pledged term limits, but it is really important that I stay" How many times have we seen that happen? Way too many. What makes Bruce think he is so all mighty important that we can't live without him for 2 extra years? That my friends is ego!!!! All your average voter will hear is that yet another prominent Republican is more interested in HOW LONG he can stay in office than in doing the job he was chosen to do.

According to those in attendance at the HD 15 vacancy committee, Bruce ran on a platform of integrity. So why didn't he tell the crowd there that he inteded to pull this stunt if elected? Maybe because it flies directly in the face of all he has been saying for years about not being just another politician. I can't wait to see what excuses he will offer for this one!

Big Problem

It's a problem because no single politician should ever be so important to us that we make excuses when they game the system to hang around longer. Once you go down that road you find ways to justify supporting people like Don Young and Ted Stevens from Alaska who are two of the biggest pork barrel spenders in Congress, and BTW they are Republicans. Like it or not, Doug Bruce is gaming the system.

No Problem

AbesGuy,

Are you insinuating a problem with that? Seems reasonable to me. Why would he not do that?

With reason,
P.Valerius
